Customer Support: Troubleshooting: Printer Configuration
In order to print USPS approved postage using Stamps.com Internet Postage, you must first set up and test your printer. During this process you may see a "Shape Test" where our software learns how your printer works by printing one or more shapes as a pre-test before printing out the sample envelope used to finalize your setup. If you see this test, the following tips will be useful:
- If you feed the envelope into the right side of the tray, choose TRIANGLE.
- If ... the center of the tray, choose SQUARE.
- If ... the left side of the tray, choose CIRCLE.
The above should guide your decision when you see parts of more than one shape on the envelope (or no shapes at all). Please note, however, that you may not see the Shape Test depending on the make and model of your printer.
The printer configuration process is key, so if the Print Setup wizard is cancelled the software will be unable to print postage.
Before continuing, please make sure you have the latest version of our software.
Please perform the following steps:
- Go to the FILE menu in the upper left hand corner of your Stamps.com software and click PRINT SETUP. (If you do not see this option, go to the TOOLS menu at the top middle and click CONFIGURE PRINTER.)
-
On the screen in front of you, please make sure that the correct printer and the correct paper tray are selected. Click next.
-
Please select 'Envelope #10' from the Print On menu. Below this menu, please select that 'Yes' you do wish to include a return address (you can change this setting for including a return address later on). Click Next.
-
Please place a #10 envelope in the printer according to the graphic shown, with the short edge leading into the printer. Then click 'Next'. A sample envelope will now be printed for you.
-
Please verify the information on the envelope against the information on the screen. The postage and addresses should be in the same position as the sample on your screen.
-
Click on the 'Finish' button.
Your printer should now be configured to print postage directly to envelopes using the Stamps.com.
